Today, at Friday the 24th of July, 22 years oldNatalia Zdebskaja married her boyfriend for many years, Super GM Yuri Drozdovskij, and we congratulatethem bothand look forward to meet the young couple in Troms in the start ofAugust. Here is my profile of the young WGM Natalia from Ukraine:

WGM Natalia Zdebska (2412) was born the 16th of August 1986 in the city Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine and she is married the strong Ukrainian GM Yuri Drozdovskij (2620) the 24th of July 2009. Ukraine is known to be about as tough as it gets when it comes to chess and Natalia proved her chess skills from an early age in Youth championships in her home country. Her first major win was the Junior Championships of Ukraine in 2002 where she won Gold Medals for girls under 16 years. She also represented Ukraine at many Youth European and Youth World Championships in different age categories winning three attractive Medals. Her best achievements was a Silver Medal from girls under 18 at Kallithea, Greece 2003. She also won Bronze Medals in Kallithea, Greece in 2000 for girls under 14 and at the same venue in 2001 for girls under 16.

Natalia Zdebskaja has won many chess tournaments including Sevastopol (2000), Kharkov (2003), St. Petersburg (2005), Chisinau (2005), but her best performance is probably winning the Fifth Elisabeth Bykova Memorial 2007 in Russia. She has excellent results from the European Girls U18 Team Chess Championship where she scored 5.5/7 in both 2001 and 2003 winning a Gold Medal for her team Ukraine in 2001. In 2002 she scored 6.5/8 in the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad, and became the best player on the 4th board and hence secured a Silver Medal for her Ukrainian team.

In 2008 in the Chess Olympiad in Dresden, Germany she finally made her debut at the Ukrainian women's team, winning Silver Medals! Natalia was first reserve but played 8 games with the incredible score of 7/8 and an Elo-performance of 2528 winning a individual Gold Medal at the 5th board! Her peak Elo is 2438 from April 2009 and in the summer of 2009 she was ranked nr. 64 in the world among female players with 2412. Natalia's playing style is aggressive but dynamic and her focus is on classical values such as center control, space and activity. She is a devoted e4-player as white. With black she usually plays the Sicilian versus 1.e4 and the Nimzo Indian or the Queens Gambit Declined versus 1.d4.

Here you find a nice tactical twist in the middle game from Natalia with a classical stroke, and thenthe transformation to a won ending:

WGM Natalia Zdebskaja - Jasmin Bejtovic (2306), Copenhagen 2009, white to move:
acc010

23.Nd6! Even though two pieces covers the square the Knight starts a winning stroke! 23...Qxd6 24.Qxf7 The Fox is inside the Hens garden! 25.Qe8+ followed by Rf1 has to be stopped now. 24...Bd7 It really was'nt any survivingmoves to choose from here, now white strikes again! 25.Bxg6! hxg6 26.Rd3 The point, black must now give serious material to stop the mating threats in this classical attack. 26...Qf8 27.Rh3+ Rh5 28.Qxf8+ It's a pitty not to end it with 28.gxh5! Qxf7 29.hxg6+ which is a bit more effective. 28...Rxf8 29.gxh5 and white went on to win this entirely won ending. A nice sequence by Natalia! 1-0 in 56 moves.
